Well, here goes. This is my first, and WordPress’ first, phoneography photo challenge. The idea is to use photos that you’ve shot with your phone, then, create and edit a new post with the WordPress app, and, of course, include your… phoneotos
. This challenge was fun for me on more than one level, but mostly because I’ve become an iPhone photo maniac over the past year or so. I use a number of apps to edit my photos, with varying degrees of success, but always with a great deal of enjoyment. You may also notice that some of these appear on the Flickr side bar as well. So, here’s this weeks WordPress Weekly Phoneography Challenge: My Neighborhood
As an after note, I had trouble with the WordPress app for iPhone. Perhaps it’s just me, and I will try again. But in the mean time, I had to use the good-old Dashboard from the on line site.

I will forever be a fan of my iphone camera..these are all great shots Greg.. I think I’ll take some pictures with my iphone today, I’ve been neglecting her
I agree, Lynne. Even when I do manage to get a DSLR, I’ll probably continue to shoot with my iPhone. It’s just always there with you, ready for those shots that just jump out in front of you. The last picture in this set is a good example. I took that yesterday on my way to work. I probably wouldn’t have had another camera with me and wouldn’t have been able to capture the scene.
Breathtaking!
Thank you, jenyjenny!

Love your photos especially the last one.
Thank you, mybeautfulthing! The last one is my favorite too.
lovely pics.

Thanks, Armar! I’m looking forward to spending some time later today and seeing what everyone else does. To me, that’s just as much fun as doing the challenge.
Pretty good photos, my “smart phone” does some very silly things, worst of all trying to second guess what I want it to do. The extra apps and downloading, touching a screen with big fingers, etc, etc, etc…
I’ll try to keep up, but first I need to know if the “e” in phoneography is pronounced…
Good question, ehkstream. I had never even heard to the word until about two weeks ago. I take it that you don’t pronounce the “e” just as you wouldn’t with “phone.” But I have to admit, it’s not a great word in any case. If you don’t pronounce the “e” people, at first, think your saying pornography. If you do pronounce the “e,” then the word phony jumps out at you. Maybe we can collectively come up with something better….
I agree about the unfortunate sound of the word without the “e”, and to see it written without the “e’ would imply that phonography has something to do with a phonograph, which is something completely different. (Not that anyone remembers any more…)
I think “phonyography” is just a gimmick.
There, I feel better. Thank you…
I so envy you , this Iphone camera really beats my nokia , lolz… but seriously beautiful pics captured ….
Thank you, shammee. My iPhone is a 4s. I hear the camera in the 5 is much better.
yeah with additional Panaroma effect , i have got my eyes on it …
Love the color in the shot of Mortimer Spit , and I really like the pebble shot. Great pictures.
You had us guessing with the fish market shot, then we googled it and found out we had been standing in front of it back in the fall. LOL!
Glad you liked them, Deb! I decided, that my neighborhood would have to include Sidney, so that’s how the Satellite Fish Company got in there. It turns out that it was owned by a friend of mine at one point. I didn’t know that until I did this posting.
Great photos – nice variety. I was too impatient to deal with the iphone app as well. Another day perhaps?
Thanks, Terri! Yes, the app seems to need some work. I had done the whole post on the the app, but then it wouldn’t give me a publish button and I was only able to “update” the draft. Then, when I did publish it with the Dashboard, it didn’t actually show up on my blog. I finally gave up and redid the whole thing. But, like you, I’m willing to try it again.
Fantastic! I don’t have a camera on my phone, so ironically I’ll have to do this challenge with my DSLR…
Thank you, Baking Barrister! The double irony is that I am desperately saving my pennies for a DSLR. I’ll probably continue using my iPhone a lot, even when I get a new camera, but I am looking forward to all the advantages a “real” camera can offer.

Those rocks are lovely on the log – great post!
Thanks for the comment, Bridgette! Someone had left them all lined up on a log like that. It’s always fun to come across stuff like that. A few weeks ago it was a little daisy made of tiny stones. It’s here on flickr if your interested: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kayakergreg/8482041201/in/photostream
Beautiful photos! I wish I lived in your neighborhood.
Thanks, Caroline. Can’t complain about where I live, that’s for sure. But mostly it’s just home for me, and only one corner of a beautiful world.

Beautiful selections. Especially the last one.
Thanks, Amy! I was really fortunate to be passing the scene when I did. Moments later the fag really moved in and it was gone.
Beautiful photos! I especially love the first two.
HI Maggie. Thank you for the comment! I’m surprised at how many people like the one of the stones on the log. I almost left it out.
Really great photos. Which photoediting apps do you use?
By the way, I also had major issues with posting via the WordPress app and had to repost the good old fashion way (dashboard).
Hi Bupe Rose. Thanks for the comment. I’m mostly using Camera+, but sometimes PicShop and CrossProcess. I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who had problems with the WordPress app. I think it needs some reworking.
Beautiful photos…I adore the pebble line, and how you’ve processed it
Thank you, greenmackenzie. Because the iPhone doesn’t easily do depth of field shots, I used the Camera+ to depth of field affect. It turned out better than I thought it would.
Great photo collections! Or should I say phoneotos?
Thank you, Inge! I kind of hope that phoneotos doesn’t stick. It sounds like a brand potato chips to me. Good for a giggle, though!
Beautiful British Columbia. I go to the Island at least 3 times a year, Victoria, to visit good friends. You took good pictures using the Phone.
Hi Seeker. Thanks for that. Victoria’s such a great town, but of all the cities I’ve been to, my heart belongs to Vancouver. Love living on Pender, but I still miss my old home sometimes.

Thanks, Dre. It’s been really fun putting this photo challenge together. A good excuse to show off our little island.

Greggie, the colours in your first photo are amazing. Is that natural?

beautiful clicks! i too would have preferred the word without the ‘e’ but language constantly evolves. so maybe one day it will change. at the same time, perhaps there was a concern that it could be confused with a phonograph without that ‘e’.
in any case, thanks for sharing.
And thank you for your kind comments, pix & kardz!

I’m just getting into the apps. Such fun. These are great!
Nice pics!
Wow – stunning photos!
Thanks, 1annecasey! It’s amazing how good the cameras have become in these “phones.”
Ah yes, but there are also the hands and eyes behind the phone! You did an amazing job. : ))
Really nice photos! I only use my iphone to take pics too! I’m just a novice at taking photos, but I really enjoy the freedom and fun that I am having with my iphone! The photo apps are fun to use too! I found the wordpress app on the phone to be a bit tedious, but it can be done
I’ve managed a few times, although it’s not my preference.
I enjoyed taking a peek into your neighborhood
Was there a fire that forced you to leave the scene of the last photo with fog above the lake? Otherwise it is difficult to understand your not staying there forever.
